Things NOT to Do When You Get Engaged

Things NOT to do when you get engaged? Use these tips to avoid common errors.
First, engagement rings should always be placed on the finger after the wedding. In the old days, the bride's mother would place the ring on her finger so it would be visible to her daughter at the reception. However, this is a bad idea now as you will have no choice but to place it on your finger until the wedding ceremony.

A good idea is to get a simple silver band and ask your fiance to buy a small diamond from her jeweler for you to use as a ring. If she chooses to, she can cut the amount in half of the course.
Also, when the new couple first meet, the engagement rings should always be set up as if they are made just for the wedding. It is usually done with wedding-related items such as a bride and groom pillow, a bouquet of flowers, etc.

When a new couple gets engaged, the rings should be taken from their hands at this point because it is customary to give the bride's mother the ring before the wedding. In most cases, the rings were given out to the bride's parents because they had earlier supported the new couple.

Engagement rings should always be kept away from children who are around the newly engaged couple. These children may be offered a bargain rate on the ring by the mother or may just simply steal it to make a fashion statement.

To avoid having the ring stolen from your fingers, consider getting a simple metal ring. For example, a gold and diamond bracelet or a band is a safe bet.

In case you do not want to dole out the engagement rings until after the wedding, you can give out the ring to the mother of the newly engaged couple. This will help ease the burden of parting with the ring since it is too late to buy another one.

When you decide to share the engagement rings with your mother, take time to choose something that will match her dress perfectly. In some cases, an engagement ring may be more suited to your mother's taste than your own.

Engagement rings can also be given to a child who is very close to the newly engaged couple. This would be a way to show him that he will be in the same class as the couple.

You may also give your engagement rings to a mother who is tired of waiting for her son to propose. In this case, your wife or daughter can go get her ring since the child will not be the one to propose on his own.

Finally, your engagement rings should never be given to someone who is already engaged. Keep this in mind when the new couple is going to a party and the person you intend to give the ring to does not have any interest in getting married yet.
